Mel Fronczek
multiskilled, audience aware digital journalist
This is the bulk of my work experience. I mostly focus on news stories (business, politics, crime and courts, social issues, etc.), but I have also gotten to try my hand at feature writing. My writing samples have been published in a variety of outlets including USA Today, the Indianapolis Star, South Bend Tribune and Indiana Daily Student.
I have experience obtaining court documents, using public databases such as LexisNexis, employing narrative reporting techniques and more. I challenge myself by pursuing medium-form stories while also turning around dailies. I'm always learning and growing!
Awards:
-
Second place in Best Student Print/Digital Feature Story (2020 Best in Indiana Journalism Awards, Indiana Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists)
-
Third place in Best Feature Story (2020, Indiana Collegiate Press Association)
The majority of my work in these areas was also produced as class projects, though some is published in the Indiana Daily Student. Here you'll find some magazine and poster designs, infographics, web design, a data map and more.
I'm proficient in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, in HTML and CSS and in Microsoft Excel. I had a brief stint working with Adobe After Effects and hope to learn more about animation in the future.
Awards:
-
First place in Best Multimedia Package (2020 Apple Awards, College Media Association)
-
Second place in Multimedia Feature Story of the Year (2020, Associated Collegiate Press)
Most of my work in this area was produced in various Media School classes, though some is published in the Indiana Daily Student. Of the three, I'm most confident in my video production skills, and I love editing.
I have experience operating DSLR cameras and audio recorders and managing my files. I'm proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro and am slowly teaching myself Adobe Premiere Pro.
