Hi there! Glad you dropped by.

My name's Mel, and I'm an award-winning reporter and writer with a knack for and interest in all things multimedia — digital production, video, audio, design, etc.

I'm a producer for the USA Today Network's South region digital team, working with the 21 Gannett-owned papers across Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. I make digital edits to stories for SEO, analyze newsroom metrics, write social media copy, design social media cards, create interactive charts and maps, design web layouts for enterprise stories, edit podcast episodes and write engagement stories on trending news.

I've been a reporter at the NPR member station WFIU, the regional newspaper South Bend Tribune and the campus newspaper Indiana Daily Student. I've also produced content for the Indianapolis Star and the National Park Service. My work has been awarded at both state and national levels.

I'm a 2021 graduate of Indiana University-Bloomington, where I studied journalism and Spanish. I was a member of the 2021 New York Times Student Journalism Institute and Dow Jones News Fund digital media cohorts. I'm also a proud member of the Asian American Journalists Association.

In my sweet, sweet free time, you'll likely find me napping or playing with my cats Coco and Puff.

Get in touch if you'd like to talk about job opportunities or freelance projects, my work samples or just The State of the World.
